I passed my novice test in 1978, my technician in 1982, my general in 1983, my advanced in 1994. All these tests except for the advanced were given at the FCC office on Peachtree St. in Atlanta GA. I could never master 20 wpm code so after a long hiatus I passed the no code extra class in 2023.

My primary radio is an Icom 7300, an MFJ-998 auto tuner, along with an Ameritron AL-811H amplifier. For VHF work I use a Kenwood TS-711A All Mode with a JM PA-350 VHF amplifier. I enjoy talking 15,20,40,80,160 meter AM/SSB, and FM/SSB 2 meter simplex.

When it comes to Amateur Radio, I am an old school guy. I will stick with AM, SSB, and FM. I currently use a G5RV dipole aligned north south at 60 feet, and a seven element M2 2M7X beam at 53 ft for 2 meters.

I am currently the secretary for both the Monroe County Amateur Radio Club and the Macon Amateur Radio Club. I am also a member of the Alford Memorial Radio Club located at Stone Mountain GA.
